    Please remember, however, that the gift horses have been costing us a little more than usual the last ten years, and that some of us are just beyond cynical and frustrated about it.

    I'm speaking of a DOJ, for example, that's been spectacularly good on these types of issues, and so mind-numbingly, egregiously bad on things like "financial fraud".

    I'm GLAD they're doing this, it fixes a lot of things, don't get me wrong. I just can't figure out how they can be so good and so bad at the same time.

    This all started with "what the Republicans did to language".

      It's easier for the administration to do the right thing on LGBT rights because (1) activists have spent years laying the groundwork and (2) our rights cost corporate America and the 1% virtually nothing.

      Nowadays there just isn't all that much resistance to LGBT equality outside of the right wing, and those people are never going to vote Democratic. So there's not much political cost to helping us homos, at least on the national level.

      If letting us marry was going to take any money out of the pockets of the elite, things would look really, really different.
