  •  a bullet past my head (0+ / 0-)

We live in a rural area where guns are the norm. It's a rare day that you don't hear shooting in the vicinity. We overlook a lake and used to be scared that during goose-hunting season a bullet would blast through our window (we have what we call a wall o' windows looking east).

Before our house was even built, we were out making a garden one day when shots rang out and I had the terrifying experience--as did my spouse--of hearing the whine of a bullet going past my head. Not a sound I'd ever wanted to hear.

My spouse went to a couple of the neighbors and found the guy who'd been idly shooting off a gun. He got belligerent and said he had the right to shoot in his own back yard. No apologies, no apparent horror that he'd nearly killed us, nothing.

We barely go outdoors during deerhunting season and if we do wear bright orange hats and vests. I hate it.
