  •  Big thing is to find out how the "STEM" movement (0+ / 0-)

is funded, by whom and what THEIR politics are...

Then ask why the funding or focus has gone away?

    Hm.

    Ugh. --UB.

Board of directors has nobody actually educated in the sciences.  Technology training - yes, but that is about it.  Funding is a not transparent.

    •  The US National Science Foundation coined the STEM (5+ / 0-)

acronym in the 1990s (link), according to an Associate Director at NASA.

In defense of scientists in MI, I'm inclined to add that the lack of funding AND public support for science initiatives in general, particularly evolutionary biology, is ALSO a barrier for "STEM people."

He attends Science Olympiad and is also a Scout...

I don't hear too much about evolution from the parental units, but I do hear a lot from the kid lambasting Ken Ham in the most recent debate with Bill Nye. I had hoped that he could have gotten an International Baccalaureate or courses similar to those, but he is in AP courses, so... but I don't know the true quality of that in the way that Nye and Tyson are talking about. STEM is not just tech for tech companies, but who am I to judge? ;o)

I fear for MI since it is the most Southern of the Northern States..., perhaps even more than WI, given that WI still has Mad City, but I don't know...

I have been watching Nye, Neil deGrasse Tyson and a number of other science promoters and they are closer to this than I am, and they don't give me a lot of hope about the religious backwaters of MI and states like it.

        Ugh. --UB.
