    ordering your staff to refuse to testify and refuse to turn over documents could be seen as "obstruction of justice" or witness tampering, which is an additional crime. That's what brought down a number of the Watergate defendants.

    It's a risky strategy, because if even one staff person suddenly gets an attack of ethics and public service, that person could well say to Christie, "Sorry, I'm cooperating with the legislature -- so go ahead and fire me, be my guest, at least I'll get out of this alive and with some dignity." Then the floodgates open and whatever information they're hiding gets out. And then the "obstruction of justice" charge looms.
