    An apolitical audience that wants to be entertained and to hell with teaching and preaching ... or a politicized public that demands that every artifact of culture must inculcate an approved identity and value system ... and then who's identity and value system gets inculcated?

    The Religious Right is an excellent example of the latter; they too believe that value-free entertainment is impossible - whatever is not explicitly for something is implicitly against it - and undesirable even if it were possible.

    Domestic politics is the continuation of civil war by other means.

      doesn't actually exist. People believe they are apolitical when their politics fall within the accepted and reinforced norm. Reinforcing the status quo with a "meaningless" movie is political.

      If knowledge is power and power corrupts, does that mean that knowledge corrupts?
