  •  The film industry migration... (3+ / 0-)

has been going on for the past few years now. While everyone would love to shoot in LA, a lot of other states and countries have been trying to woo film production away with overly generous tax breaks that most film studios can't refuse. Canada has gotten a large share of TV and film production, but also Louisiana and Georgia have been big culprits as well.

In Georgia, all of the Tyler Perry projects film there, as well as movies like The Blind Side, The Hunger Games, Fast and Furious 5, X-Men First Class, and on and on. It's great for people that either live there or choose to move, but in the long run it isn't that great for any state or country to do this as the tax breaks hurts those places tax revenues as they try to compete with one another.

But to my first point, those people that are looking to move to a place with a steady stream of film work (and a lower cost of living) have been moving to Georgia. This is great politically for Democrats as it means more younger, progressive people are moving to a purple state, making it a battleground state sooner than it would've been otherwise. :-)

i had not heard about any of this

one more reason to be hopeful about GA

I knew Atlanta was becoming so blue that it might be enough to swing the whole state someday soon

an influx of young creative people is definitely going to help the state turn blue

in addition to their own voting, they could be footsoldiers to spark voter registration and GOTV with calls and ground work

and since the Blue Team's biggest framing advantage is in the creative arts, they could help with using music and comedy to promote the D message

      thanks for your response, GleninCA

Politics is like driving. To go backward put it in R. To go forward put it in D.
