  •  One more thing to consider. They are cutting down (8+ / 0-)

the Boreal forest to dig this s**t up.  It was one of the world's largest carbon sinks until they discovered the tar sands and started deforestation.  Not only are they destroying the carbon sink, even more carbon is released in the deforestation process.

People need to realize that as oil is used up, companies are using dirtier, more expensive methods to extract the stuff.  This is true for all minerals.  It doesn't make any sense to proceed on this trajectory, which gets more risky as we go.  All of this pollution and chemical contamination of our water supplies just so that a few billionaires can get richer.  Why be the 5th and 6th richest people when you can try for 1st and 2nd?  It boggles the mind.

One thing is for sure, we don't have another planet to go to when this one gets to inhospitable.  All the money in the world won't protect one from nature's wrath if you're in the wrong place at the wrong time.
