    Great story, not just for the event itself but for the twist, ie how unwelcome wildlife become our friends when they benefit us. Although I don't know if your beaver-hater neighbor ever understood that!

    I'm glad to hear the snowpack is building up finally. What a dry winter we were having, it was getting seriously worrisome. Yesterday's storm must have helped.

    The food availability question is one I've wondered about too. At the rate they take down trees, how can vegetation grow fast enough, and how far are they willing to travel in a night? The creek I was referring to above, where the beavers were taking down that big alder, doesn't have many trees like that left. There are a lot of firs, but can they eat fir? The area is full of invasive blackberries and reed Canarygrass, not great food either.
