  •  I don't know that I'm paranoid enough to agree (8+ / 0-)

with the notion that if you've had any VA treatment you're subject to felony charges. And I live in Texas and I know several black men who have CCLs (granted every single one of them has a job involving, from time to time, cash delivery to banks or carrying sums long distances). I don't know any black women who have CCLs, and I've never gotten mine; but I could get one, easily enough. Except ... why bother, when I don't need it, for my .22LR semi-auto rifle?

    •  I think the possiblity of charges depend (7+ / 0-)

on the whim of the authorities in case the person manages to offend those in power. Step on the toes of somebody powerful and connected, and you may find either local LEOs or US Marshals on your front porch with a warrant.

Of course, they would have to find out about it, which would require one of two things.
      1. A HIPAA violation on the part of the faculty.
      2. The owner blabbing about it.

    •  VA treatment = medical prohibition, not a Felony. (2+ / 0-)

All it takes is someone declaring you're a danger to yourself and others.
Or, that you're having physical or mental difficulties which do not rise to homicidal or suicidal risk.

      •  and they'd know this about me how? (1+ / 0-)

he's on a regular cycle of psych review, when at the VA for prosthetic work, and follow-up medical exams (reconstructed arm and hand).

"If you had to flee an encounter, rather than inappropriately use lethal force, could you, on your prosthetic?  What if someone attempted to grapple a firearm from you, could you retain the weapon, given the condition of your left arm and hand?
As you can not work as a police officer, do you find yourself depressed, morose, or prone to moments or periods of anger?"

He calls these "fishing expeditions", designed to make room for that NO GUN 4U rubber stamp.

Now, I'm not in the room, before the VA, hearing this first-hand.  It may, be a earnest attempt at preventing Veteran Suicides, which may have a firearms prohibition component.

He is, in my opinion, not a person seeking any special advantage or dispensation for his service, nor injuries.
So I believe this is honestly reported, and may be applicable to "War on Terror" veterans only.
Much as certain conditions applied to Vietnam Veterans, or Gulf War Veterans, only.
