    People need to realize that the only way things change is by creating the groundswell of public sentiment which compels that change.

    For years, I've been saying something about this... That opponents of the rightwing agenda need to stop wasting their time and energy opposing the crazies, and instead put that time and energy into converting the indifferent to seeing the value in the progressive cause.

    We should be thinking in terms of closing a sale, not winning an argument.

      Rooting for our guy/gal to beat theirs, as if that were the end game in itself. The two most recent eras in which there was a significant political shift to the left for the sake of the people were during the Great Depression and during the 60's, the latter when the civil rights and anti war movements in particular crested. Unions were seizing control of factories during the 30's.

      Pressure from below has to be strong to overcome the lock that the truly "entitled" usually have on ultimate policy making in this country. I think we agree, in the big picture it is more important to win the people than it is to win a specific election. With the people activated and behind us, not only can we win elections, we can actually win the agenda that our candidates in principle support.
