    owned.  This idea is relatively modern, going back only to the early enclosure movement in Britain.  Before that land was ruled by nobles but not "enclosed" to make it "private".

    I don't know much about Asian ownership history, but here private land ownership is a European invention designed to make us dependent on money (to pay rent) so we have to work in the owners' factories.

    And to reward the early corporations, East India Co., etc.
