    Less demand for oil from the US.

    And a few months ago, for the first time ever, the Middle East shipped more oil to China than to the US.

    Hence, the US pivot from that region to the South China Sea.

      managed to make considerable inroads into Latin America while the US was floundering around in the Middle East trying to control the oil.

        wasted trillions  on a war on an abstraction. However bad Real Politick was, it at least had something dealing in reality. What we got now is really as far as I can tell about lining the pockets of those who are trying to get why the gettin' in good.
