    Geothermal is big on the...er...big island and they are drilling an experimental well on the back side of Maui.

    There are some drawbacks.  The Puna (Big Island) geothermal operation has been sloppily managed and has too many accidents with poisonous emissions rolling over the neighboring residents.

    They're trying to drill in a park by the ocean which really isn't wise.

    They accidentally hit lava on one of their wells.

    They use fracking to introduce water into their wells which runs the risk of contaminating our aquifers (which are usually on a higher strata)

    It is required to have both heat AND water for geothermal to work.
