    Even though it is graphic, I've always briefly discussed the topic as part of my instruction with 9th grade students in World History and Cultures. It's important to let people know this type of barbarism exists and should be ended.

      One thing I had to go up against was not cutting my son because of my views on FGM as in, if I don't want someone else doing it to their kids, why do it to mine?  Also, though I don't agree with it, I did find works by Germaine Greer on FGM in a pan-African study of it to be enlightening.

        but only focused on the practice on women.

        •  It's a start at least you are bringing it up (0+ / 0-)

          Though I do think we need to "clean our own house" too.  The stats on "genital modification of infants" in the US, on female children are enough to give anyone the horrors.
