  •  No inclination toward honesty? (23+ / 0-)

He doesn't spend much time on sunsets and rainbows, and I'm not sure I buy the connection between zombies and oppression (I'm not sure he does either--he seems to give equal credence to the "fear of invented dangers" theory).

But I have listened to many, many hours of his talks and read much of what he's written, and his commentary on American foreign and domestic policy has always struck me as unflinchingly honest.

Proud sniveling jerk--working overtime to hold Rush Limbaugh accountable. -->>

something I know something about, and he cherry picks like crazy.

      Doesn't make him right, though.

his laser focus on things or parts of things that are suppressed or ignored or misunderstood in part means that he does not get a balance between that and everything else... the denied cruel truths outweigh the rest since he gives less thought to other factors and fact and that leads to almost conspiracy theory level analysis of the causality involved... Going all Chompsky leads to a world view that is in some ways as troubling and erroneous as extreme Corporatist-racist-conservative world views...

less damaging of course but far more useful and potentially constructive when considered in conjunction with other views... The hypocrisy he points out and the history and continuation of destructive forces in US society must be part of our overall understanding....

but going full Chompsky without leavening it with other views leads to a warped version of the truth... his views and insights are much closer to describing and understanding US society and politics than what can be found on Conservative reactionary bible-bashing-gun nut full on corporate apologist side of things...

but still The Chompsky world view is wanting some re-balancing... a world run according to Chompsky would introduce other errors that his set of blind spots make inevitable. But that is something he shares with all of humanity... All solutions have seeds of new problems because all solutions are incomplete and temporary and based on several rigid ideas. And those with bigger insights also will have some large blind spots. That is inevitable because blind spots make possible acuter vision or focus in other areas... so accepting all of any prophet or commentator's words without question will lead to both truth and error...
