  •  He speculated well on a far-out question. (15+ / 0-)

I'm not a big defender of him (since his misguided commnts on the Khmer Rouge c.1979). But his impromptu, off-the-cuff answer to an off-the-wall question is hardly a sign he's "slipping." He did pretty well in speculating, I thought, citing an interesting book, quoting the Declaration, offering a big hypothesis, etc. -- could you have done better? (Or are you "slipping," too? -- I guess we all are, over 40. :-) )

      Yeah?  Give us a quote.

The right loves to claim that Chomsky was a defender of Pol Pot or some damn thing like that, but you won't find him say much besides point out that there are also other atrocities committed by US allies that don't get much play in the press.

The really remarkable thing about Chomsky is that he's been in this business for a long time without saying anything that's all that stupid (caveat: I don't claim to understand the Kosovo War, but many seem to feel that Chomsky called that one wrong).
