  •  But remember, Obama had both House & Senate... (0+ / 0-)

I realize that he had to deal with blue dogs but he still could have came out swinging and could have used the bully pulpit to actually fight for the people.

I was paying pretty close attention back then and I would not classify what I saw as anything close to a fight for the people.  It was more like, "I sure would like to help these people but those meeanies on the other side won't let me so I'll just offer up some more tax breaks so they'll have to agree.  Or, I'll offer up THEIR health plan, they'll have to agree to that... Or I'll show them I am not weak on terrorist... I'll SURGE in Afghanistan, keep Gitmo open and start killing US citizens abroad with robot airplanes... That'll show'em.

I have never bought into that "Poor Wittle President" vs. the "Big Bad Republican extremist party" (who happened to be a minority party at the time).  We received exactly what the people in power in Washington wanted us to receive and nothing more.

It was just enough to keep the country from going completely belly up so the flow of money to the 0.01% would continue as it had since Reagan.  They created enough ruckus to satisfy the rightwing base that their representatives were fighting for them and the leftwing got excuses and plausible deniability to appease their supporters that it was all the mean ole Repub's fault.

Meanwhile, back at the ranch, the financial class of people (which just so happens to include 98% of congress) just happened to reap the benefits of the vast majority of the recovery (and I mean vast like practically all of it).  Funny how it just happened to work that way isn't it?  I am always suspicious when people always seem to screw up in just such a way that it seems to benefit them everytime.

"Perhaps the sentiments contained in the following pages, are not YET sufficiently fashionable to procure them general favour..."
