and said this, "I'm shocked, truely shocked, to discover sordid political abuse-of-power, in New Jersey of all places," and then laughed and said, "OK, you caught me this time, next time I'll be more discrete," he'd probably have been better off than he is now.

I might have given him a pass, if he had said, "OK, from now on we're going to try to be a lot more honest."  I might have said, "sheesh, at least the guy has a sense of humor, ok, you get a pass this time, but if you keep this up, we might just say something."  And, the whole thing would have probably blown over by now.

By lying and defying all of us, it's like he's daring us, "go ahead, and try to know this chip off my shoulder!" We've have to do it. It become a game, more fun than the other news.

As I find a way to say in every Bridgegate diary in some form:

The reason Christie could not and did not 'fess up to the plot immediately, and promise not to be a bad boy anymore, was that he was not done sticking it to Fort Lee and its three lanes.  He fully intended to continue pursuing the plot against Fort Lee's bridge access, as he announced in his first presser.

He also had his ally in the Senate, Kevin O'Toole, pick up the baton, and start railing about the travesty of Fort Lee's three lanes, and by god, we've got to rally around and take those lanes away permanently.

Laugh it off, say "got me this time, guys, oops," that was so not in the cards.  Not until Wisniewski's subpoenas turned up those damning emails did Christie abandon the plot.

the time he was almost going to get away with it.  He is going to keep lying hoping that there is no smoking gun.  He just wants to stay in office for long enough to make more money for himself and his pals.

No way I can see his Billionaire Evil Overlords letting him become a serious Presidential Candidate at this point.  Waste of money.  He doesn't get the base out, he is now a bully who comediennes can fat-shame, thus a complete waste of money.

          •  That first presser is the smoking gun (7+ / 0-)

imo:  "what really gets me sauced is that Fort Lee has three lanes, and I have asked Samson to look into that."  And meanwhile, crony O'Toole also jumps on the Fort Lee 3 lanes travesty bandwagon.

If Christie was so disconnected from and unaware of Bridgegate, how is it that he simultaneously went on a personal jihad against Fort Lee's three lanes, him and his buddy Chairman Samson, and his other buddy, Senator O'Toole?

It was a blackmail plot, and Christie personally issued the blackmail note in that press conference.

            Yeah, I'm obsessed

          •  Best case scenario he'd still be a huge gamble. (2+ / 0-)

What they're doing now is trying to contain the fire
and restrict it to bridgegate, but I don't think they can. There's a massive empire of cronies and developers who are at risk here, most notably with the Port Authority, but extending to anything involving Sandy. Hopefully they'll get Todd Christie and Samson , Norcross, etc. anlong with CC and the whole thing will come crashing down.

You can't make this stuff up.
