    to know what he's doing, yet. But it does seem rather recherche to me (and NO, I do NOT know whether that's the term I mean...it's just the term that comes to mind).

    But I can kind of see where symbiotics grabbed him by the nose.

    •  It seemed to me a load of pretty pieces, cleverly (6+ / 0-)

      arranged - but I did find the little bits of story well-written and engaging, which saved it, for me, and made it more than just a puzzle.

        Too late to tip you, alas.

        I think this is a read-it-twice novel for me. Once for story, then again for craft.

        But definitely it is a product of its time, and its time was the height of the semioticians.

          I find that with most of the novels I read. Especially when I want to turn them inside-out, so I can write a diary plumbing their depths. Worse still, most of the novels I read make me want to go off and read another few novels by the same writer.

          Serves me right for reading such good books.
