    basically a state in everything but name. since it would be admitted as a state, similar to how Canberra is treated in Australia, giving it two senators is correct.

      That would be the equivalent of gerrymandering state borders to give one party more support. I can't ever imagine DC getting two senators. Maybe it will get one representative some day.

      •   Dc is not part of any state. Maryland & Virginia (0+ / 0-)

        gave up land to create it, thus it is separate from either state and therefore can become a state. by law each state gets the same amount of senators-2. dc is already included in the Ev count, so making it a state would simply create 1 new rep and 2 representatives and would raise the house to 436 and the senate to 102. given the demographics of dc, no republican is ever going to win there
