    in many a year.

Oh we were winning them before?
People in what they think is "the center" just don't get it, sometimes, when they insist that the reason we have been losing for decades is that we haven't been nice enough. Or we haven't compromised enough. Or that the American people prefer bipartisanship to the actual results of legislation. Etc. Etc. Etc. Guess what? We tried it that way. For over 25 years, if not more, and we've gotten weaker and weaker as a country as our government has grown less and less responsive to the majority of citizens.
It's time to stop that nonsense. Waaay past time.

      our position.

Just treating with people a little respect and dignity.

      (1) It's just the right thing to do; and
      (2) You win a lot more flies with honey than with vinegar.

You know these people we progressives always talk about fighting for?  The disadvantaged, the poor, etc.  Yeah, some of them grew up with different beliefs and perspectives.  Some of them may be open to changing their opinion with patience, a little kindness and careful explanations.  Some of them may not.

Do we now only care about the poor with a D after their name?

As someone who knows Alison Grimes personally, I can tell you that she is disgusted as I am about these attitudes.

      •  What "honey" remains to be tried? (0+ / 0-)

This is my point. We've tried "honey" for decades and we haven't won the flies that remain. At some point, you have to write off those who are willfully ignorant or diametrically opposed to your ideals and move on. Imho, we reached that point a while back, a point on which I think kos and I agree.
We tried treating our enemies--and they are our enemies--with respect waaaaaay beyond that which they treat us and have gotten nowhere but worse off. We tried compromising and being "adults", and got spit on in return. If you don't recognize that we've already done what you want, and have done so for decades, I don't know what to tell you.
