    I don't oppose civilian ownership in my understanding of what you wrote here.  Surely there are many areas where most people on either side of the debate can find agreement.

      I wish more people would do what  you did, put your biases aside and look at the arguments and evidence that supports them.  

      Its a matter of trust, pro gun or anti gun, without at least some trust, its unlikely there will be a compromise acceptable to most.  

      I'm a 4 Freedoms Democrat.

      Yes, the people advocating for strict gun regulations are just like the NRA, which thinks that even the murder of 20 first-graders doesn't indicate the need for change.
