  •  Daniel 11:37 (4+ / 0-)
37 He will show no regard for the gods of his ancestors or for the one desired by women, nor will he regard any god, but will exalt himself above them all.
This "pastor" is showing such a disregard for the people who sit in his congregation and their reading ability. Not only is it not saying what he claims, but it stands in direct conflict with the picture of what the Christian right paint as their nemesis.

    •  I'm not sure how Daniel (3+ / 0-)

could speak of the anti-Christ anyway since it's in the OT.

      •  It's in there and the old testament if researched (0+ / 0-)

in hebrew brings about a lot in the new.   They have preached that the antichrist will be gay.  Well he or she or it will be straight...and all other things the way I interpret it considering anti christ pertains to more than the biggie that the fundies keep harping about and why do they care....  They will be raptured out before they deal with him according to their own belief so screwed up because you cannot READ the scriptures you have to study and run reference and everything is not literal and majority is in hebrew or greek...Most can't even interpret english.. They  are ignorant and don't trust God but Smith and Wesson.

        •  I don't agree. (0+ / 0-)

Some Christians may be (trying) to interpret it that way, but I don't see how that is possible in this instance. Daniel was Jewish (an ancient Hebrew). And, his prophesy (his dream) is about the return of Israel as a nation. They had been conquered by the Babylonians at the time. I don't think that Jews even believe in Satan, let alone the anti-Christ. That is a Christian (well, some Christians anyway) concept that Daniel would not have known.

          •  Jews do believe in Satan though he/it is (0+ / 0-)

merely God's prosecuting attorney (special prosecutor?) and has no ability to do anything without God's approval.  In other words, Satan is merely an angel with a specific function rather than the enemy who tries to corrupt souls like in Christianity (at least those forms that believe in Satan as an actual entity rather than a concept).

          •  Christians consider the prophecies of the Old (0+ / 0-)

Testament, particularly those relating to the Messiah, as being relevant to Christianity. Jesus is the fulfillment of the Messianic prophecies and Daniel is beloved by Christians of the apocalyptic mindset.
AFAIK, Satan is one of the angels in Judaism. (In Job, he is described as one of the sons of God.) Satan as an evil god, with powers similar to and opposed to God, is unique to Christianity.
I don't know enough about the demonology of Islam, but there seem to be lesser demons (shaitan) and a great shaitan.
But the reason that the Old Testament is even in the Christian Bible is that the OT describes God acting in history and history moving into a particular direction - that is, toward the birth of Jesus, the development of Christianity, and ultimately the return of the Christ.

Jesus never got married, never fathered children, and never even had a girlfriend that we know of. And he hung around with twelve men he called his disciples. That doesn't sound very heterosexual to me. Maybe it was genetic -- Jesus was born gay and God the Father used in vitro fertilization to impregnate Mary, the surrogate mother of Jesus.

        Look at the evidence.

Not that there's anything wrong with being gay (which is a line from "Seinfeld").
