      We knew it was intended to last much longer than 4 days.   One month.  Jesus.  It seems almost impossible that someone would not get seriously hurt by hindering vital services for that amount of time.

      Imagine the businesses crippled by a month of customers unable to get to them.

      Also amazing to think they thought they could get away with something like that.  Perhaps felt secure because they had the Chairman in on the scheme?

        Only four days just makes it seem petty and childish.  But one month? That could do some serious damage...enough to fuck up a development deal. BTW, that's my theory, from a diary by jamess no less! ;)

        Money should be treated like any other controlled substance; if you can't use it responsibly then you don't get to use it.

          And remember, the plot was not to take away the lanes for a month.  No, that was just the horse's head in the bed, the nasty blackmail letter, the threat.  The plot was to threaten to take those lanes away permanently.  Permanently.  Now THAT would fuck up a development deal.

          You heard Christie make that threat publicly, in his first press conference.  You heard Christie say he'd enlisted his buddy, the chairman of the PA, to do just that.  You saw his ally Senator O'Toole take up that cause in an op ed.

      from long distance drivers to make up for the deficit that resulted from the rate increase. Local traffic gets discounts with E-Zpass. So, the profit margin there is slim. Besides, local traffic has no alternatives. Long distance traffic can escape the time-consuming tolls by taking another route to New England.

        authoritatively. You make it sound like this was some kind of legitimate traffic study when almost everyone in a position to know says that it wasn't and didn't follow any established procedures or processes or review.

        What you posit might certainly be the subject of a legitimate study, but I don't think that this is what Bridgegate is about.
