  •  That doesn't say "don't vote." (9+ / 0-)

At most, it's a cynical view of what those activities have become. If it resonates with someone to the degree that it would cause them to sit out an election, they were 98% of the way there already.

Somebody has to do something, and it's just incredibly pathetic that it has to be us. ~ Garcia

    •  I would generally agree with you on the cynicism. (3+ / 0-)

I can see cfk's problem with it, though, because Ray seems to be citing it as a given - as a best description of the current situation - and I don't get the feeling he's being particularly cynical.

At least half the future I've been expecting hasn't gotten here yet. Sigh.... (Yes, there's gender bias in my name; no, I wasn't thinking about it when I signed up. My apologies.)

      •  It doesn't matter, it does not say do not vote, (3+ / 0-)

that is some sort of conceptual hallucination on cfk's part. It , at most, implies that voting won't be fully efficacious in achieving our goals and keeping government on the straight and narrow, but it does not say "do not vote."  It would be nice if those working on their masters degree in creative reading would let everybody else read for themselves instead of trying to constantly censor shit based on their fears of all of the nightmare non-voters hiding under their beds.

That, in its essence, is fascism--ownership of government by an individual, by a group, or by any other controlling private power. -- Franklin D. Roosevelt --
