Are you justifying his arrest because he went to Harvard and opposed Chavez?

Maduro is arresting his opponents and shutting down the free press, blaming the US for his own massive mismanagement of the economy.  This is far more than "some corruption problems."

I'm saying that (as usual) the corporate media here in the states isn't giving us the full story here. It's well documented how the U.S. government and big oil have been trying to destabilize the Venezuelan government for decades And they've been successful to a point. Lopez is the leader of a right-wing movement, in part financed by right-wingers here in the states.

Venezuela has more oil than Saudi Arabia. Is it any wonder that Exxon-Mobil and other oligarchs would pay dearly to de-nationalize it, and then scarf it up for themselves.

Try reading the link I provided above to Democracy Now. And check out others around the net. This is a much more complicated scenario than Maduro being the only bad guy here. Just like it was complicated back in the Chavez era.

Like his predecessor, Maduro was duly elected, despite what the U.S. government wanted to happen.

responded to was simplistic and inaccurate probably due to the commenters ignorance of the situation-due entirely of course to the superficial and slanted coverage (when it appears at all) of the topic by corporate media. You gave DD an opportunity to begin to correct that situation by linking to Democracy Now.If people started listening/watching this program an hour a day in High school, the social/political dialogue in this nation would improve exponentially overnight.Facts are the only disinfectant for the 24/7 corporate propaganda infecting the world, turning potential citizens into consumer profit units.

The situation in Venezuela (as well as elsewhere in South America) requires much more than simple and biased corporate-media-fed analysis. Anyone even vaguely familiar with our covert military and hegemonic history south of the border realizes that.

Democracy Now's Amy Goodman and journalists like Pepe Escobar have provided much-needed clarity of our international shenanigans to those who seek it for close to two decades.

To actually think the U.S. government isn't involved in what's going on now/has gone on in Venezuela is simply naive.

          They've got lots of oil.
