The claim at the top of the diary that the US is working to destabilize Ukraine is a real eyebrow raiser. Following the link, it takes you to Democracy Now interview which makes the same claim and points to the leaked tape between Ambassador Pyatt and State Depts' Nuland (the fuck the EU tape. In listening to that dialogue in its full context, I'm very skeptical of Democracy Now's claim that discussion has to do with a coup. The full discussion is posted in this excellent diary by Kossack Mark Lippmann:

Democracy Now's claim is buttressed by Stephen Cohen, Russia scholar, who also did an interview on Democracy Now. Cohen is a defender of Russia, Putin and even the Sochi Olympics. All of Cohen's claims are also dubious. The diary does an excellent job of addressing this issue with a healthy dose of skepticism and the comments in that diary are also very skeptical of Democracy Now's and Cohen's claims.

Let's put this in context. Viktor Yanukovych, and his corrupt election in 2004, instigated the the Orange Revolution and he was ousted. He managed to weasel his way back in, in 2010 through another election which was highly dubious, where 300,000 non-registered voters mysteriously voted, where he built a 75 Million dollar mansion on a salary of $2,000 a month, where he jailed his principle political opponent, Tymoshenko, stripped Parliament of most of its powers?

Seriously, even if the US was plotting a coup, for which the evidence is extremely scant, is Yanukovych the kind of guy the DailyKOS "left" wants to stand behind?

To your comment - I don't think its about "left", or "progressive", or "liberal", I think its something at an entirely different level and its not healthy or more importantly, not reality or even truth-based.

    •  Yeah, the claim is obviously dubious. (2+ / 0-)

I agree that the dubious claims are not healthy, reality-based, and often not truth-based.

    •  I'll take the analysis of a Russian (0+ / 0-)

scholar over yours, any day of the week, especially since you've provided no useful information whatsoever, other than uninformed and dubious speculation.

I provided significant factual information, well beyond your single link to Democracy Now. That article raised more than a few eyebrows. I pointed to another diary, very well written, and discussed in detail by many in the comments which showed the Democracy Now claims of a US supported coup was more than a stretch. Even AoT pointed to the same diary and agreed it was a stretch.

And you go on the attack like this? Can't you take any constructive criticism of your writing at all????

        •  Yes, both, uninformed, and dubious; that's all (0+ / 0-)

you've done here.  And nonsense.  I'm going to avoid the circular argument route by plainly stating that Democracy Now! and the two gentlemen they interviewed regarding the Ukraine and Venezuelan stories are providing credible, informed, and nuanced analysis of the situation.

What you've done add nothing of value to the discussion.  It's pure nonsense.

          •  I beg to differ (2+ / 0-)

all you have to offer is attack, even when people are on topic, and offer facts which challenge the premise you've posed. I get it. you don't like people doing that. You're here to preach. Its our job to listen.
