    is a lot older than ten years. I think Democrats and Republicans are what most people use to describe the elected leaders or the voters but I know I have used the word Democrat as in Democrat Senator or a democrat president. I never envisioned a "rat" or thought it was a slur. I am not sure how many of us are guilty of this infraction and although grammantically speaking you are correct I have never really thought I playing into the hands of republicans.
