    I've been in the same situation more than once.  I hope that you'll try again next time.  

    Interesting lighting on that small painting.  It's very effecitve with the limited palette.  I usually use a limited number of colors.  It's partly my color vision problems and partly laziness, I suppose.

      One of the local painters I admire noted that he hung all his rejection notices on his easel as motivation to keep getting better, until he gradually started getting more acceptances. Sounds like a plan.

      I don't think a limited palette is lazy at all; quite the contrary. it's lazier to have dozens of tubes of paint, reaching for what looks closest every time you need a new color on the canvas. A restricted palette requires more analytical thought to mix just the right color from the three primaries. Cooler or warmer? Lighter or darker?
