BBC News has just announce that Yulia Tymoshenko has arrived back in Kiev.

I have a diary started about 7 hours ago that gives a blow by blow update from various TV and web news source including Al Jazeera English and Russia Today.

"Come to Sochi, visit the gay clubs and play with the bears" - NOT a Russian advertising slogan.

want Klitschko.  We want Tymoshenko, or Yatseniuk (both of same party).

Nobody outside of Ukraine wants Tyahnybok (Svoboda), but they bore the brunt of the fighting and will want a share of the spoils.

Putin doesn't want any of the three opposition groups, and the regions party is kinda busted up.

        who wins?

Not the Ukrainian people, I'll bet

        •  Yatsenuk is not going to run now that Timoshenko (0+ / 0-)

is out of jail. And all these calculations assumed that Timoshenko is in jail. Now that she's out, things are completely different. Yeah, Svoboda and Right Sector will likely do well in the parliamentary elections (whenever those happen) but they don't have enough support for their candidate to make a serious bid for President. Klichko is a bit of a wild card but Timoshenko is a much better politician and is a lot more popular.

Compared to Yanukovich, any of these guys will be an improvement for Ukranian people.

isn't that popular anymore, which is why (among other reasons), Nuland/Kagan want Yatseniuk.  If Timoshenko runs, she won't get past first round.  Yatseniuk isn't that popular, either.  Maybe less so after the F bomb  phone call was leaked.
            It will be Klitschko.

            •  Yatsenuk will almost definitely defer to (1+ / 0-)

Timoshenko and even if he doesn't they share the same electorate and she will do better. It's hard to say how Timoshenko will be perceived now that she's out of jail. She's no longer the symbol of opposition to Yanukovich, you're right about that. Klichko could win.
