  •  Military force can be used, but it's not option #1 (0+ / 0-)

In Bosnia, Kosovo, and Libya, military force helped end deadly wars. Iraq was an example of a senseless invasion that led to a deadly civil war. At the same time, many conflicts were resolved without outside military intervention. Ukraine was basically an example of the three European foreign ministers flying in to Kiev, talking to Yanukovych and the opposition for hours and hours, and signing a deal that didn't satisfy anyone but that ended up defusing a deadly standoff by the next day. Ultimately, it was the Ukrainian parliament which implemented the deal and removed Yanukovych, not outside forces. It will be interesting to see what comes out of the Iran nuclear negotiations, and whether that could lead to resolution of the nuclear issue there.
