  •  WT Sherman Representing - Freedom From Traitors! (6+ / 0-)

I'm a descendant of W.T. Sherman, through my maternal grandmother Natalie Parker Sherman (maiden name), and I've certainly read his autobiography. His main focus during the war was that he (and most of the rest of the Union Army officers) viewed and referred to the Confederates as "traitors." Sherman, however, did grow to despise slavery and its implications.

What the South hates about Sherman, aside from his seminal role in ending the war early by cutting war supply and soldier transport options, was that he basically outsmarted the Confederate Army and its generals.

One has to wonder why so many white southerners to this day run on gut instinct only, rather than a combination of smarts and whether or not a matter feels right.

Ol' WT sort of had both; if he'd been running strictly on brains he would have implemented a lot more destruction than he did in order to not only end the war quickly, but to keep the losers on their knees a lot longer than it turned out.

You meet them halfway with love, peace, and persuasion ~ And expect them to rise for the occasion...
