  •  Yeah I don't get that either (6+ / 0-)

Some young woman is minding her own business,  jogging and relaxing listening to some music. She's in a zone and then BAM cops take her down and arrest her for not providing some ID?  Now I don't know if you got a load of her clothes or her shoes but where the fuck is she supposed to stick her ID if she's jogging?  Up her ass?  Because I know that when I go jogging I just want to be burdened by extra weight and bulk.  Maybe that particular cop would rather hit the local Dunkin Donut shop more than the gym and thus has no clue about these considerations.

The cops handled it piss poorly.  If they were busting her for jaywalking, they should have realized that she was um oh I dunno jogging and maybe talked to her about safety and let her go with a warning.  But our law enforcement in this country has become so militarized that they're hell bent on arresting people first rather than serving and protecting.  You're no longer innocent until proven guilty, you now have to prove your innocence after you been arrested for no apparent reason and you're thrown in a cell in Kafkaesque fashion.

This is bullshit.  I hope that young woman sues these fucking asshole pigs for all they have.  As an added bonus they should be lined up and she should get a free shot at their manhood because it's obvious they're suffering from an overdose of it.  What 2 cops wasn't enough to take that scrawny girl down?  Had to call in the backup?  Why because she was screaming at the top of her lungs that she didn't do anything wrong?  Assholes.

That's not what happened at all. But you wouldn't know it from reading the diaries published here by this diarist.

I would suggest you read the Austin American Statesman article linked above. The police were ticketing jaywalkers along this street; the jogger jaywalked, when police stopped her she freaked out and started screaming, fell down limp, and refused to tell them her name.  There is no law in Texas as this diarist claimed in his/her previous diary that requires the carrying of identification papers. You are required to give your correct name, address and birth date to police when stopped for a violation of this kind (how else are the cops going to write you a ticket for jaywalking?)

Once in the patrol car, she did give her name but by this time the cops were pretty pissed off with her, so they took her down to the station anyway.

Bad judgment on the part of the cops? Probably. Bad judgment on the part of the jogger? Sure.
