Funding cuts have resulted in parents having to pay a fee for summer school in our district.  So, if you haven't got the bucks for the summer school fee, then what?

    •  I'm sure the legislature is very excited about (3+ / 0-)

funding 60% of elementary students to take summer school.

Fry, don't be a hero! It's not covered by our health plan!

correct?  You know what will happen.  Their legislature will demand that the districts provide summer school without another cent provided for it.  The financially strapped schools will siphon money from their other programs to provide it.  This will further imperil their schools.

It is not a bug.  It is a feature.

Somebody told me that you had a boyfriend who looked a girlfriend that I had in February of last year.

the legislature allocated $70 million for the
      mandatory reading boot camp.
(for students who do not pass the Grade level reading exams.)

The problem is they allocated this based an an assumed
      $20% rate, not 50-60% rate.

The DPI is charged with allocating the $70 mil to the individual school districts and the districts will allocate the money to the schools based on their internal criteria.

In other words, schools are having to plan for summer school  (staffing, materials, meals) without any indication of available funds.

      Unfunded mandate
