a bill in 2011, introduced and sponsored by Jim Smith, to take the decision for the pipeline away from the state utilities commission and give it to the Republican governor.

    •  and now it's in court (0+ / 0-)

the ranchers don't want it.  The state GOP didn't reckon with loyal party member's opposition.  I guess it's like the Exxon guy suing to keep fracking out of his back yard? You can only sell ideology if it isn't personal?

Which is why Obama is glad to delay and delay. He trust science, it isn't going to get better.

It's the good news bad news - good news, less climate change denial, bad news - disasters everywhere.

The pipeline has to go through many states, all of them, and right through their water supply.  It's almost funny now, watching the inner-party disagreements on an issue they'd all once been fine with denying.

state legislature is unconstitutional. Jim Smith, the state senator who introduced and sponsored the bill, is also the Nebraska state chairman for ALEC.

Any Democratic party candidate is going to have to differentiate him or herself from the default GOP position in favor of the pipeline.

obama's plan is to wait as long as possible and let facts help, and also let citizens organize around it, for this and future causes.

Her plan is to not give any position that could be seen as differing from his in any way, until she's really a candidate. But as I said before, she would also delay as long as possible, because that is smart.  To delay the big bruhaha that would come, (how is bruhaha spelled?).  But neither would approve it, that's clear from Obama's spokesperson.
