There's also an enormous overlap between the religious right and the libertarians on economic issues - taxation, regulation, privatization, etc. - which unlike social issues, enjoy the enthusiastic support of the real power in this country: the rich.

The bedroom police and the "Jesus rode a dinosaur!" bumpkins might scuttle back to their backwoods trailer parks for a generation or two to fester and pass on the hate, but the moderate, suburbanite version - the "lifestyle coach conservatives": so worried about whether or not America is preaching and practicing good life habits - and the so-called 'fiscal conservatives' (the "cut our way to growth" crowd) will still be going strong: preaching a mutually reinforcing duet of morality and utility - "'Nature and nature's God' are both conservative!"

The Religious Right isn't going away anytime soon.

Domestic politics is the continuation of civil war by other means.
