  •  I would be careful lumping Bitcoin with those (0+ / 0-)

other two: FB and Twitter. I would also be careful about lumping FB with Twitter. Why not throw text msging in with all that while you're taking a broad brush to the things that powered Arab Spring and are doubtless at work in Ukraine right now.

Just because YOU do not use them (and there's probably no reason you should) does not mean they are worthless, although Bitcoin is more than I can fathom.

    •  It's a lot harder for message control (0+ / 0-)

on Twitter, because you choose who to follow and who to not follow. Yes, there are the "promoted" Tweets from assorted corporate sources that show up on the feed on the Web interface (pisses me off that I've been getting NFL combine reports when trying to follow SF Giants news), but those don't show up on independent Twitter clients especially on mobile systems (I'm a fan of Tweetbot for iOS) so they're relatively easy to avoid. I've been able to follow a lot of sources that I would have to spend hours on the computer to keep up with, and have gathered quite a few diary inspirations as well.
