  •  Too true. And too much control over textbook (6+ / 0-)

    content - literally, rewriting and whitewashing history, whenever possible - in places that make the largest textbook purchases (and thus influencing the textbooks that get published and which become available), so they get to set the initial foundation at the get-go in spite of what other states want.

    Perhaps one potential saving grace: the convergence of information & media might create an opportunity for schools to get more flexible about the materials & content, less dictated by publishers & big red states. That, tho, would then move the battle back up to school committees, state legislatures and the federal level - wouldn't even the playing field much, but could weaken or remove one of the methods that are used to dumb-down our historic & cultural knowledge at such a basic foundational level.
