  •  As does Georgia. (4+ / 0-)

Delta Airlines and other Atlanta-based corporations have pre-emptively attacked a bill that was working its way through committee, hoping to head off a Arizona-like situation here (and possibly influence the AZ law as well).

    Delta's statement:

"As a global values-based company, Delta Air Lines is proud of the diversity of its customers and employees, and is deeply concerned about proposed measures in several states, including Georgia and Arizona, that would allow businesses to refuse service to lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender individuals. If passed into law, these proposals would cause significant harm to many people and will result in job losses. They would also violate Delta's core values of mutual respect and dignity shared by our 80,000 employees worldwide and the 165 million customers we serve every year. Delta strongly opposes these measures and we join the business community in urging state officials to reject these proposals."

I actually do believe that Delta stands behind its own diversity policies, but the business case it clear to them as well. So they're extra-motivated to send a message about the business consequences.

The lunkhead politicians behind these horrible bills don't get the human rights aspect, or the moral dimension, so maybe it takes the dollar signs to snap them into focus. Whatever - it will help stop this madness for now.

        •  Well considering this law would allow (0+ / 0-)

any Delta employee or group of employees in the state to discriminate at will and tell Delta to take their diversity policy and shove it up their ass I can definitely see why they wouldn't like it.
