Technology is disruptive to retail, but it's possible to adapt.

The big mistake that Big Retail made, in addition to not adapting well enough to changing consumer tastes, is leading the race to drive down wages and salaries. They gravely wounded all retailers, and our economy as a whole, by taking money out of the pockets of people who are both retail employees and retail customers.

Retail businesses that can build an almost "Amazon-proof" inventory will still do well. There are many things that people buy that they don't want to buy online, either because they want to see it in person before they buy or because they want it today and not a few days from now.

The driving down of wages, as you said, is huge.

And the cost-cutting to maintain profit by corporations.  We saw that coming 6, 7, 8 years ago.

With Amazon's drones, people won't have to wait a few days for their crap anymore :-)  And I don't think anyone will ever be able to "Amazon-proof" a brick and mortar store.

are not going to happen. It was a nice publicity stunt, but it will never be a reality. The day Amazon drones take to the air is the same day that Youtube videos pop up showing various people shooting them down with paintball guns for sport.

          •  Not that I am aware of (0+ / 0-)

though I do not doubt that some folk probably did shoot at aircraft.

Of course there is a difference between manned aircraft where the consequence of shooting down the aircraft would be a loss of life, and an unmanned drone which would just make for funny Youtube videos.

The idea of delivery by drone is patently unworkable.
