If Chris Christie is incompetent, it is deliberate on his part ... and that's worse! He knew these people who he hired or approved of their hiring and their placement.

Any top official in a business with a track record of entrusting with power people like David Wildstein and Bridget Kelly - and probably several others now hunkering down in deep cover to save their souls - would be removed from office or officially neutered for a while ... and then removed.

Complicity in corruption isn't required. Just vouching for these people, appointing them to positions very close to Himself and then trusting them to do things in his name. For that is what top staff and high-ranked appointees of agencies and departments do many times a day, day after day. People who receive missives from Kellys and Wildsteins, even if they outrank them in the hierarchy of government, are not likely to challenge Top Staff.

Chris Christie has failed at leadership, people selection, supervision and, in the face of publicly evolving scandal, maintaining calculated ignorance until it could no longer be maintained.

In a few words - if you believe Christie - he never asked about the four days of closures until long after the debacle affecting his constituents was public. That is way beyond incompetent. (That 's OJ after his trial, spending no visible time or effort finding his ex-wife's murderer.)

they did an excellent job screwing around with people for him, but he told them 'nothing in writing' and 'no email.' He needs to hire more secretive types, and only those willing to take the fall for his greater ambitions.

... there's no secret any more. And you're facing a jail sentence and no one will ever hire you.
