  •  Well... (7+ / 0-)

First I did a screen capture to save the picture to my desktop. Then I opened it in Photoshop, cropped it, resized it, and saved it to the desktop again.

Then, I opened a new diary, and used the image library tools that come up on the right side of the page. First I uploaded it, and added some tags to the file. Then I clicked on the button to insert it right into the diary draft. (For some reason, it always pastes picture html codes into the very top of the intro section, instead of where I left the cursor) A dialog box lets you pick if it's to be centered, put to the right or left, etc. - and you can add a caption. Clicking on the button automatically puts all the html code to pull up the right file, size it, and caption it as requested.

Once all the code is pasted into the diary, I can cut and paste it where I actually want it to go among the text. I've been doing this with diaries I've posted - this is the first time I tried putting it into a comment. I realized once the html code is available, I can cut and paste it anywhere. (I abandoned the diary once I got the html codes.)

When I started writing this, I was just trying to get the older characters reminiscing about good times in the library for their little sister. Then when I started thinking about what happened to "Mrs. Pemberton" I decided to go for the twist.

    •  Uploaded it where? (5+ / 0-)

I uploaded it to Photobucket, because that's listed as one of the approved hosting sites for dkos... And there my troubles began, because for whatever reason Photobucket doesn't work very well on my computer.

      •  Right to Kos, if I understand it (5+ / 0-)

When you open a new diary, right next to the intro box on the right side is a smaller box. It has:

        IMAGE QUEUE (what is this)
Add an image, then drag to place in story
        UPLOAD FILES  Image Library

I'm working in Safari. When I click on UPLOAD FILES button, a dialog box opens, and I pick the file directly from my computer to upload. It usually takes a few seconds.

Once it does, there's a little thumbnail, and two options:
        Embed in story
        Open in Image Library

Underneath are options to fill in to add tags and info to the file.

I usually click on Embed in story after filling out the tags, whereupon the html coding to place the picture gets pasted right into the very top of the intro box, after I click through a few options in the dialog box that appears. I can then cut and paste the html codes to where I want the image to appear.

This is how I'm doing it anyway. I expect there are easier ways, but it works for me. I'm not uploading it to photo bucket or elsewhere - just going right from my computer to Kos. I expect the FAQ has more detail on this, and if anyone else wants to amplify or correct me, feel free.
