      the extension of the Green Line from Lechmere to Cambridge since 1952.  You know, when Truman was president?  In 1969 they junked the Watertown streetcar and in the 1980's they permanently abandoned the Arborway/Forest Hills streetcar.

        True, just a small part of the E line is on the street sharing with cars.

        But three of the four of the Green lines are in a sense, street cars.  They run on the street, but in the middle of it with curbed off areas so pedestrians aren't mowed down by cars--except that 10-block stretch of the E line that is pretty damn dangerous.
