the Rada did not follow the constitutional procedure, but if you leave your post and flee the country, I'd accept that in lieu of a letter of resignation...

Is that the Rada impeached Yanukovich under the protocols laid out in the 2004 version of the constitution, which it reinstated without the approval of Yanukovich, in violation of the 2010 version of the constitution. So legally, if you forgive the heinous way in which the constitution was reworked in 2010, the Rada would have needed Yanukovich's approval in order to change the law to allow them to impeach Yanukovich. Seems problematic, especially when Yanukovich is AWOL and refuses to recognize the Rada's legitimacy itself.

    •  Wait. You don't think normal impeachment (0+ / 0-)

procedures should apply if heavily armed violent mobs chase a President out of a country?

In a general sense, applicable to most nations?

The guy is a filthy crook and has abused office to imprison and cow his opposition.  I have no regard for him at all and I'm fully convinced his impeachment would have been a great thing.

I just can't get behind the idea the fleeing a mob renders Presidents in general guilty.  It seems a very general "YAy!!!! Coups for everyone!!!" position.
