I also believe his comment was warranted and should not have been HRd.

The people  who got involved in that conversation are to blame for it being the long thread it was.

The correct answer was to ignore it, or to do as you did here, quite well I might add:
"There was nothing in the diary about intervention. Please stop."

"I didn't see anything about intervention in the diary."

And it could have stopped there. Both points would have remained valid, no HRs would have been thrown, and this silly pie fight in the middle of the comments section would not have happened.

The value of a troll or a distraction is in getting the serious, well meaning people to engage. Who cares if he's a dick. Nobody cares about the dick standing over there in the corner talking to himself.

We've got to do better at this. As a large group of people trying to communicate about passionate issues we're ripe for this kind of distraction - and the Establishment knows it.

They've got the powerpoint slides to prove it too.

used to tug on liberal heartstrings was valid, just not in this diary.

I appreciate that it was said in this comment section though.

I wish it were done a bit more tactfully, obviously, but as soon as the donuts start flyin' it gets crazy.

I do think Kos' message on behavior in threads should apply: the diarist should 'moderate' or participate in the comments and if someone is out of line with the behavior the diarist accepts, ask them to leave. That was a clear statement by Kos: that a diarist can ask someone to leave.

Hell, I dunno how everyone should behave. It's hard enough thinking about how I should behave. But if someone asks you to please leave my house, a person should. The "write your own diary" link is just a click away.
