    the folks in E. Ukraine had actually petitioned for secession/self-determination, and were denied and abused for it, then it might justify, arguably, Russian military intervention.

    Seems to me they've jumped from pt. A to pt. F.

      as an Autonomous Republic to be stripped.

      It was one of the first orders of business of the new Goverment - and it's a campaign platform of the Fascist party which is virulently anti-Russian.

      The writing is pretty clearly on the wall here.  I don't think seeking to protect themselves prior to massacres is unreasonable, particularly so long as they're not initiating violence.
