    Vegetables steam well in a microwave -- put them in a plate with a bit of water at the bottom, cover with an upside-down salad bowl, nuke'em on HIGH for a few minutes, and you're good to go.

    I've done asparagus, broccoli, and brussels sprouts that way.  You can still brown them in a skillet later if you want those flavours, too.

    Corn also works with the husks on.
