My "bagger-supported" Congressman here in Wisconsin has neither a primary nor a general election challenger.  Looks to be running unopposed in November.  Retired and relocated to Wisconsin 3 years ago--was very upbeat about it at the time--not so much these days.  Already looking to sell and move on.

...but let's be honest.  Wisconsin's farts don't smell like freshly baked chocolate chip cookies.  I mean, Jim Sensenbrenner has been stinking up Congress for almost 35 years.

I can't speak to your situation and what might motivate you to move out of our state.  Maybe Wisconsin will hold Scott Walker to account this fall and maybe it won't.  Some days we deserve the comments about 'getting what we deserve', but other days we don't.  Regardless of what we deserve, what we need are good people to help, even if it's just small things like pulling the lever on election day for the person with the D after their name, or standing up for Dems in conversations at the fish fry, on deer hunting opening weekend, at the farmer's market, in the bar, or at church.

    •  The 'Ring of Fire' county I'm stuck in (7+ / 0-)

a prominent republican operative from our area wrote a piece  that appeared in a  local paper stating,
'No one who signed the recall petition will ever [be able to ] run for office'.
(sorry I cant link, but it was in a local paper several weeks ago).

Yes, its McCarthyism, and yes it is scary stuff. Intimidation w/that information is a reality. A judicial election that was held last year the sitting judge lost (after 18yrs on the bench) lost solely b/c he signed the recall. That was the only 'qualification' his opponent had. He basically ran his whole campaign on.that.  Right wing radio gave him a huge assist, along with the foaming at the mouth teabaggers this county is lousy with.

Don't want to spread 'FUD' as that is not helpful, but I often forget those of us who really keep abreast of what is going on behind the scenes really do live in an information bubble. When we knock doors, try to talk to people,  realism sets in. It is depressing.

We work hard when the opportunity presents itself for change, to educate people, but there is just too much willful ignorance. There is also a large segment of the population that is just busy playing 'Whack a Mole' keeping afloat themselves. They don't have the time or inclination to look any further than the convenient 'news' as it is currently and deceptively presented to them.

Weak and out of touch dem party members, top down, along with fighting the effects of redistricting and voter registration  aren't encouraging.
