    in foreign affairs? I've read that mantra over and over, and am still trying to figure out why it matters. Every country that has a foreign policy has squandered 'moral authority' at least once.

      Kind of like Japan didn't have much of a leg to stand on in East Asia for decrying nuclear weapons as being inhumane when they committed a metric-fuck-ton of atrocity against East Asians during WW2.

      If a country appeared to hold some sort of moral authority, it might make it easier for their allies' citizen (and their own citizen) to support actions that could otherwise be viewed as a waste of resource.
