cold salty water than drifts down from polar seas to the bottom of the ocean is the source of oxygen in the far depths.   If the thermohaline circulation can't be restarted, eventually the bottom of the ocean becomes a giant dead zone several miles down.  Oops.  That will take a long while to happen; the limiting factor for life in the depths is lack of food, not lack of oxygen, but when it does happen things will get ugly.
